Retainers

Dental retainers are custom-made devices used to keep teeth in their new, corrected positions after orthodontic treatment, such as braces or clear aligners.

Types of Retainers:

  • Removable Retainers:
    • Hawley Retainer: Made of acrylic and metal wire
    • Clear Retainer (Essix): Made of clear plastic for a discreet look
  • Fixed Retainers:
    • A thin wire permanently bonded to the back of front teeth

Purpose:

  • Maintain alignment after braces
  • Prevent teeth from shifting
  • May be used to correct minor tooth movement
