Types of Retainers
Removable Retainers
- Hawley Retainer: Made of acrylic and metal wire
- Clear Retainer (Essix): Made of clear plastic for a discreet look
Fixed Retainers
- A thin wire permanently bonded to the back of front teeth
Purpose
- Maintain alignment after braces
- Prevent teeth from shifting
- May be used to correct minor tooth movement
