What the assessment includes
Bloods and imaging together, because hormone levels alone do not tell the whole story.

FSH — ovarian activity
Estradiol (E2) — oestrogen level
LH — luteinising hormone

Why hormones and a scan together
Hormones tell you the stage
FSH and estradiol show how your ovaries are working, and whether what you are feeling fits perimenopause, menopause, or something else entirely.
The scan checks the structure
The ultrasound looks at the womb lining and ovaries — picking up fibroids, cysts or a thickened lining that bloods can never show.
Thyroid rules out the mimic
An underactive thyroid causes tiredness, weight change, low mood and irregular periods. It is easily missed as menopause, and easily treated when found.

Please note: an ultrasound assesses the womb lining and ovaries and guides whether any further tests are advisable. It is not a cancer test and cannot confirm or exclude cancer.
You are not imagining it
Menopause is a normal stage of life, but the symptoms are real, often go on for years, and are far more manageable than most women are told. One assessment with a specialist gynaecologist usually answers most of it.
