What brings women in

There is no threshold you have to cross before a cycle problem counts. If it is affecting your work, your sleep or your plans, that is reason enough.

Bleeding heavily enough to change protection every hour or two, or passing large clots
Periods lasting longer than a week, or coming closer together than they used to
Cycles that are unpredictable, or gaps of several months between them
Periods that have stopped altogether without pregnancy explaining it
Spotting between periods, or bleeding after intercourse
Mood changes, irritability or low mood arriving reliably in the week or two before bleeding
Breast tenderness, bloating and headaches that follow the same pattern every month
Tiredness or breathlessness that has appeared alongside heavier bleeding

The distinction that matters

Premenstrual symptoms

PMS is defined by its timing rather than its severity — symptoms that arrive in the second half of the cycle and lift once bleeding starts. Physical symptoms and mood symptoms both count, and for a proportion of women the mood component is the more disabling of the two. Tracking two or three cycles before your appointment makes this far easier to assess.

A changed bleeding pattern

Heavy, prolonged, absent or irregular bleeding is a symptom, not a diagnosis. Thyroid disease, hormonal imbalance, fibroids, polyps, adenomyosis, PCOS and several other conditions all present this way, and they are treated differently. The point of the appointment is establishing which one.

What the appointment includes

AED 250, with a specialist gynaecologist. One visit, one price, and a clear answer about what happens next.

A proper cycle history

When the pattern changed, how heavy is heavy, where symptoms sit in the cycle, and what has already been tried. Bring a tracking app or diary if you keep one.

Examination where appropriate

Carried out privately by the gynaecologist, and only where it contributes something to the assessment.

Pelvic ultrasound, complimentary

Performed during the same visit with the findings explained in the room as a verbal report. It is what rules fibroids, polyps and cysts in or out. No separate scan fee.

Bloods where indicated

Taken and processed in the building the same day where your doctor decides they add something. Blood tests are priced at the visit.

Worth knowing before you come

One visit does not always finish it. Some causes show on the scan immediately. Others depend on blood results, or on how the next cycle behaves. Where a second appointment is genuinely needed, your doctor will say so and tell you when.

PMS has no test. It is diagnosed from the pattern across cycles, which is why what you bring with you matters more here than on almost any other appointment.

Surgery is not performed at Central Clinic. Where a procedure is the right answer, you are referred on with your findings.

Common questions

How heavy is too heavy?

There is no official number you have to reach. Changing protection every hour or two, flooding through clothes or bedding, passing large clots, or planning your week around your period are all reasons to have it looked at.

My periods have always been irregular. Is that just how I am?

Possibly, but lifelong irregularity is exactly the pattern that warrants a proper look rather than an assumption. If irregular cycles are the main issue, the PCOS health package may be the better starting point.

Should I book during my period or avoid it?

Either works for the consultation. For the scan there is sometimes a better window depending on what is being assessed — mention your dates when you message and our team will suggest a time.

What should I bring?

Anything you already have — a cycle tracking app, previous scan reports, past blood results, and a list of any medication you take. It shortens the appointment and sharpens the answer.

Does the AED 250 cover the ultrasound?

Yes. The pelvic ultrasound is included in the consultation with a verbal report, at no separate charge. Anything beyond that is discussed with you before it happens. Prices exclude 5% VAT.

Is a female doctor available?

Yes. Gynaecology at Central Clinic is led by Dr Iram Mobusher, a female specialist, full-time at the clinic.
