Pelvic Pain Assessment in Abu Dhabi
Pain low in the abdomen that has been going on for months, does not follow your cycle, and has been put down to stress, diet or nothing in particular. It is one of the most commonly dismissed symptoms in women’s health, and one of the most worth investigating properly.

Sudden, severe pelvic pain is different. If pain comes on abruptly and is intense, particularly with vomiting, fever, feeling faint, or heavy bleeding, do not wait for an outpatient appointment. Go to your nearest hospital emergency department. This page is about pain that has been present for weeks or months.
What we mean by pelvic pain
Pain anywhere below the navel and between the hips, present most days or recurring over six months or more.
Why it so often goes unanswered
Several systems, one location
The reproductive organs, the bladder, the bowel, the pelvic floor muscles and the nerves supplying them all sit in the same small space. Pain from any of them is felt in much the same place, which is why a single test rarely settles it and why women are frequently passed between departments without a conclusion.
More than one cause at once
It is common for two things to be contributing at the same time — for example a gynaecological cause alongside a bladder or muscular one. Finding the first does not always mean the search is over, and treating only one explains why some women improve partially and then stall.

A pain history that is actually taken
Where it sits, what makes it worse, what it stops you doing, how it relates to your cycle, bladder and bowel, and everything already tried. This is where most of the answer comes from.
Examination where appropriate
Carried out privately by the gynaecologist, and only where it adds to the assessment.
Pelvic ultrasound, complimentary
Performed during the same visit with the findings explained in the room as a verbal report. It rules cysts, fibroids and structural causes in or out. No separate scan fee.
Tests on the same floor
Where your doctor decides they are needed, urine testing, swabs and blood tests are taken and processed in the building rather than sent across town. Priced separately at the visit.
What this appointment can and cannot do
It gives you a structured assessment and a named next step. For a proportion of women the scan and tests identify the cause on the day. For others the value is narrowing it down and ruling out the things that needed ruling out.
A normal scan is not a dead end. Several causes of persistent pelvic pain — including superficial endometriosis, bladder conditions and pelvic floor muscle pain — do not show on ultrasound. A normal result narrows the list rather than closing the question, and your doctor will tell you what it does and does not exclude.
Some answers sit outside gynaecology. Where the picture points to the bowel, the bladder or the musculoskeletal system, you will be told plainly and referred rather than kept in the wrong clinic. Surgery, including laparoscopy, is not performed at Central Clinic.

Common questions
I have had tests before and everything was normal. Is there any point coming?
Yes. Normal results are information, not a verdict, and several causes of pelvic pain do not appear on standard tests. Bring every previous result you have — what has already been excluded shapes where to look next.
My pain is worst during my period. Is this the right page?
If the pain is tied to your cycle, start with endometriosis and adenomyosis instead. It is the same consultation and the same price, assessed with that question in mind.
Could this just be a urine infection?
It can be, and repeated short-lived responses to antibiotics are a recognised pattern. If burning and frequency are the dominant symptoms rather than pain, the UTI package at AED 299 may be the more direct route.
What should I bring?
Previous scan reports and blood results, a list of medication including anything taken for the pain, and if you can, a rough note of when the pain is worst across a few weeks. Patterns are easier to see written down than remembered in a consultation.
Does the AED 250 cover the ultrasound?
Yes. The pelvic ultrasound is included in the consultation with a verbal report, at no separate charge. Any further tests are discussed with you before they are done. Prices exclude 5% VAT.
