What is an NT scan?
The NT (nuchal translucency) scan is an ultrasound done between 11 and 14 weeks of pregnancy. It measures a small pocket of fluid at the back of the baby’s neck. Together with your age and blood test results, it helps estimate the chance of certain chromosomal conditions, such as Down syndrome. The same scan also confirms your due date, checks the baby’s heartbeat and early development, and shows whether you are expecting twins.
When to have your NT scan
The NT scan can only be done between 11 weeks and 13 weeks 6 days of pregnancy, so book your first visit early. We plan your scan dates at your first appointment.
What an NT scan result means
- Low chance: no further screening is usually needed.
- Higher chance: this is not a diagnosis. Dr Iram explains the result and the further tests available, and arranges a referral if you choose them.

How much does it cost?
The Early Antenatal Package is AED 1,299 and covers 3 consultations, 2 ultrasound scans and the full set of early antenatal checks listed above. Prices exclude VAT. Instalments available with Tabby & Tamara, and most insurance plans are accepted.
When should I start antenatal care?
As early as possible, ideally as soon as you know you’re pregnant. The early weeks are when the essential checks matter most, and early scans give you reassurance your pregnancy is progressing well.
Can I continue my whole pregnancy at Central Clinic?
Yes. Many women start with the Early Antenatal Package and continue with our full antenatal packages (Standard or Premium), which cover your visits, scans and checks right through your pregnancy.
Is it covered by insurance?
Many antenatal consultations are covered by the plans we accept. We’ll check your coverage when you book, or you can pay directly and in instalments with Tabby & Tamara.
How much is an NT scan in Abu Dhabi?

Is the NT scan safe?
Yes. It is a routine ultrasound scan, with no radiation, and it is safe for you and your baby.
Do I need a full bladder for the NT scan?
A comfortably full bladder can help, but you will be told exactly how to prepare when your scan is booked.
