Tooth Extraction (Simple, Surgical)

Tooth Extraction (Simple, Surgical)

Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from its socket in the jawbone. It is performed when a tooth is damaged beyond repair, severely decayed, or causing crowding or infection.

Types of Tooth Extraction:

  • Simple Extraction:
    • Used for visible teeth with a straightforward removal
    • Performed under local anesthesia using forceps
  • Surgical Extraction:
    • Required for impacted, broken, or hard-to-reach teeth (e.g., wisdom teeth)
    • Involves making an incision in the gum and possibly removing bone
    • May require stitches and longer healing time

Common Reasons:

  • Severe tooth decay or infection
  • Gum disease
  • Impacted wisdom teeth
  • Orthodontic reasons (crowding)
