Pap Smear Test in Abu Dhabi

A Pap smear test (also called a Pap test or cervical screening) checks the cells of the cervix for early changes, long before any symptoms appear. At Central Clinic, the AED 299 Pap smear package includes a consultation with our female specialist gynaecologist, so your sample is taken and your results are explained by the same doctor.

What a pap smear test is

A pap smear is a cervical screening test. A small sample of cells is taken from the cervix and examined to look for changes in those cells.

It is a screening test, not a diagnosis. Most results are normal, and where a result needs following up, that is discussed with you directly.

How to prepare for your Pap smear

  • Book when you are not on your period. Mid-cycle is ideal.
  • Avoid vaginal creams, pessaries, douching and intimacy for 48 hours before the test.
  • Wear comfortable clothing. A two-piece outfit makes it easier.
  • Mention any unusual bleeding, discharge or pain to the doctor.

Light spotting for a few hours after the test is normal.

What Happens During a Pap Smear Test

The test is done by our female Specialist Gynaecologist in a private room. You lie on the examination couch, a speculum is gently placed, and a soft brush collects a small sample of cells from the cervix. The sample itself takes only a few minutes, and most women feel mild pressure rather than pain.

Who Should Have a Pap Smear, and How Often?

Regular cervical screening is recommended for women as part of routine women’s health care. How often you need it depends on your age and your previous results, so your gynaecologist will advise the right interval for you at your visit.

Your Pap Smear Results

Most results are normal. If anything needs a closer look, your gynaecologist explains the result and the next step with you directly.
